Plants vs Zombies

Posted on March 29, 2015 at 6:36 pm

Zombies were the big thing in gaming a short while ago. In fact, Zombies were the big thing in media, let alone gaming. You couldn’t move without walking into a new zombie film or book, or some sort of drama about surviving an apocalypse where people had gone a little bit cannibal. Plants vs Zombies, from Popcap Studios and published by EA, came slap bang in the middle of that craze. The game is available for every device under the sun but, crucially, doesn’t take itself half as seriously as many zombie games from that time have done.
The game is ridiculous. You are defending your home against waves of zombies by deploying, you guessed it, plants. The plants come in various shapes and sizes, as do the zombies, and all have various abilities. Some provide you with sunlight which you need to plant other plants, some fire peas, some act as defensive walls while others are more explosive.

What’s In Your PlayStation?

Posted on March 24, 2015 at 1:47 pm

Are you a PlayStation junkie? Do you spend your hard-earned cash on mind-bending warp speed entertainment more than your wardrobe? Is it costing you dates? Then buy second hand PS4 games instead. It will free up cash and help you get the girl.

Costs of New PS4 Games

The top cost of a new PS4 game is about £60. If you’re still using a PS3 system, consider upgrading to PS4 because the games cost less, and will save you money in the long run. In addition, the PS4 upgrade dates are unclear, so you might as well upgrade your system and use the money you save to upgrade your wardrobe.

The average cost of new games ranges between £25 and £60, depending on where you buy them. In the US, if you watch for sales, you can find killer deals on some used games ranging from $5.99-$15. Most American department stores selling PS4 games also offer online purchase options, and some even offer free shipping. (more…)

Dustforce: Cleaning Simulator

Posted on February 26, 2015 at 7:50 pm

There was a wave of hard as nails and stylish two dimensional platformers that emerged in the wake of Super Meat Boy for the Xbox 360. They came in all shapes and sizes, with all kinds of styles and hooks to them. One of my personal favourites was Dustforce which originally released on PC before moving to Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita. The game features four characters each with their own unique moveset, strengths and weaknesses.

The game itself is about jumping, leaping and sprinting through a number of beautifully designed levels cleaning up leaves and dust. It sounds a little lame, but the reality is much better. You earn points and chains for the speed with which you traverse the levels and with how well you chain together the cleaning aspects of the game. As an interesting side note I was featured in the Total Biscuit “Let’s Play” video for Dustforce at the top of one of the leaderboards!

Bastion: Perfect art and great music

Posted on January 29, 2015 at 7:04 pm

Occasionally when people work in the videogame industry for a number of long years they crave something new; a new challenge. For veterans of EA they decided enough was enough; they left to form Supergiant Games – an independent studio focused on smaller budget titles with a lot more creative freedom.

Bastion is the first title to come out of Supergiant’s stable house. A beautiful, watercolour adventure with a strong narrative presence – and with a voiceover throughout narrating all of your actions. It’s a game with a strong story; and a lot of unexpected twists and excellent gameplay to boot. A diablo type game about smashing things, collecting things and having a great time doing it. Bastion is a fantastic experience and a game that I would recommend to anyone – especially considering it’s on iPhone, iPad, Xbox 360 and PC – there’s no excuse not to pick the game up.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity

Posted on November 12, 2014 at 5:12 pm

Assassin’s Creed have come out with the next instalment of their series, which is called Assassins Creed Unity.

Unity does separate itself from previous instalments in the series in a number of ways, with the most significant things being the introduction of a cooperative multiplayer option for the campaign mode, with a maximum of four players being able to join in, and the capability to customise your character’s abilities to match your style of play, and improve upon them through a skill tree found in many different games.

The story line follows the activities of Arno Dorian, a Frenchmen who’s father was assassinated, and was adopted by a new family as a result, only to have his adopted father assassinated as well. In his quest for revenge, he winds up in the Brotherhood of Assassins, where he acquires the skills needed to complete the quest. All of this is overshadowed by the ongoing war of independence happening in France.
